Advance Ridges and Scrambling Course in Gredos (2 or 3 days)

This Advanced Ridges Course is specially designed for those people who already have experience in climbing and high mountains but want to deal in a safer and more efficient way with bigger challenges in a high mountain terrain.

The great ridges of the Pyrenees or the Alps or the “normal” routes of many high mountains could be the objective to prepare with this course.

Going through the hands of our  experience Mountain Guides will be a step forward in your mountain career.

2 days/3 days Course:

  • 2 persons: 275€ (2 days) / 400€ (3 days)
  • 3 persons: 200€ (2 days) / 290€ (3 days)
  • 4 persons: 165€ (2 days) / 240(3 days)
  • Certified Mountain Guide.
  • Liability and accidents insurance.

  • High Mountain terrain: description and risks.
  • Topo interpretation: difficulty grades, length, timing…
  • Activity logistics and strategy.
  • Gear needed for ridges progression.
  • The rope: types, lengths, care and ways to coil it.
  • Choice of tying distance between climbers.
  • Rock anchors, types, placement.
  • Building belays. Complex belays.
  • Belaying our partner: with devices, with knots, with the body, with natural elements …
  • Rappelling.
  • Rappel with broken or damaged ropes.
  • Pitch by pitch and simul climbing.
  • Protecting the second while simul climbing.
  • Techniques to save traversing.
  • Progression techniques in sections equipped with pegs and fixed ropes.
  • Basic self-rescue.techniques.
  • Speed ​​vs. security.
  • Coexistence with other parties.
  • The bivy. Some tips to carry few things and not get cold.

AND AS ALWAYS, WE ARE OPEN TO YOUR NEEDS …

  • This course can last 2 or 3 days. In both cases, one more afternoon will be invested in the approach to the course area.
  • Recommended time is from May to November, depending on the beginning and end of the snow season.
  • Sierra de Gredos. Two hours drive from Madrid. The place will be chosen based on mountain conditions and weather.
  • It also could be done in other areas under demand.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Lead climb trad pitches up to IV grade.
  • Some previous mountain and scrambling experience.

Personal Gear:

  • Light hiking boots with good soles. If you prefer mountain shoes, they must be approach shoes, with soles in good condition.
  • Medium backpack 30/ 40 litres.
  • Clothing suitable for high mountains. Depending on the season it can be more or less cold. (Mandatory long pants, t-shirt, fleece and raincoat)
  • Hat, Buff or bandana, and if it’s cold, thin gloves.
  • Cap, sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Water, 1 /1.5 L.
  • Food for the day (sandwich, nuts, bars, fruit, etc.).
  • Headlamp.
  • Phone.
  • Sleeping bag and mat. For the bivy or the mountain hut.
  • Notepad can be interesting.

Technical Gear:

  • Mountain helmet.
  • Comfortable climbing shoes.
  • Climbing harness.
  • PAS with locking carabiner.
  • 3 locking carabiners (2 of them HMS)
  • 1 tubular type belay device (Reverso, ATC, Piu…)
  • 1 Sling (120cm)
  • 1 Cord (6mm 150cm)
  • 1 Cord of 7 mm, 5 meters. If it is Dynema, 5 mm.
  • 1 single rope 50/60 metres (per party)
  • Rack of friends and nuts (per party)
  • 4 Sport climbing type quickdraws.
  • 4 extensible quickdraws with a 60cm sling.

We consider that in advanced courses participants must have this gear. However, if you don’t, we can provide you with those pieces that you do not have or cannot get.
