PYRENEES: Carros de Foc haute route with Skis

When you have spent many years in the mountains the landscapes and experiences lived are diluted in memories, some of them even become blurred. But there are some experiences that, even if they happened many years ago, remain solid and indelible in memory.

This is what happens with this magnificent Haute Route of the Pyrenees, Carros de Foc, located in Aigües-Tortes i Sant Maurici National Park.

Doing it on skis, saving distances, has something of a trip through the Canadian Rockies. Each col gives sight to new valleys, and in each valley we’ll cross a bunch of  mountain lakes, punctuated by pine groves twisted by the wind and snowfall, valleys that will lead us to new huts where rest and eat, and so every day.

ACTIVITY DETAILS

  • 6 days of mountain activity with 5 nights in huts.

  • Day 1: Meeting in Vielha. Pont de Resec – Restanca hut 2010m – Collado de Crestada 2475m – Estany de Monges – Estany de Travessany – Ventosa i Calvell hut 2215 mts. Estimated time: 5 hours. Depending on conditions we can climb the Montarto, 2833m.
  • Day 2: Ventosa i Calvell hut 2215m – Colieto lakes – Contraix pass 2748m – Contraix lake – Estany Llong hut 1990m. Estimated time 6 hours approx.
  • Day 3: Estany Llong hut – Corticelles Ravine – Collado de Dellui 2577m – Cubieso Lake – Tort Lake – Colomina hut 2415m – Colomina Lake – Saburó Lake – 2688m Collado de Saburó. J. Mª Blanc hut 2318m. Estimated time: 7 or 8 hours approx.
  • Day 4: J. Mª. Blanc hut – Collado de Monestero 2715m – Monestero valley – Estany de Sant Maurici 1990m – Amitges hut 2367m. Estimated time: 6 or 7 hours.
  • Day 5: Amitges hut 2367m – Port de Ratera 2572m – Lake Deth Miei – Saboredo hut 2310m – Sendrosa pass 2451m – Colomers hut 2138m. Estimated time: 6 or 7 hours.

Day 6: Colomers hu 2138m. – Port de Caldes 2568m – Coll de Crestada 2475m – Restanca hut – Pont de Resec Parking. Estimated time: 6 hours approx.

This is a classic program proposal, but there are many possibilities. We can, if you want and you have the necessary ski level, find an alternative with more summits, look for more interesting descents, or do it in just 3 days if you are one of those who like to run.

  • Medium Ski level on non treated snow.
  • Good physical condition. Been able to do several touring ski days in a row.

  • Medium for the ascents as well as descents.

  • January to early April.
