Ridges and Scrambling Course in Madrid (2 days)
This Ridges and Scrambling course objectives are to provide the participant with the skills and logistic knowledge necessary to independently and safely tackle classic summer mountain ascents in which they must make use of basic rock climbing, abseiling and progression techniques through complex and exposed terrain.
Small groups and knowledge of participant’s previous experiences will help us to design the most appropriate content for each course. Do not hesitate to contact us. You can speak directly to the course’s instructor.

COURSE DETAILS
- High mountain terrain. Description. Risks.
- Gear needed for progression on ridges.
- Rappelling. With descender or with munter hitch.
- Gear placement. Types and correct use.
- Basic belay building.
- Rope management.
- Tying on. Choice of distance between climbers.
- Pitch by pitch and simul climbing techniques.
- Speed vs. security.
- Using natural elements as protection.
- Basic notions of self-rescue.
- Choice of itineraries based on technical difficulty, length and capabilities.
- Activity logistics.
- 2 days, around 8 hours.
- Normally during weekends, but also can be done during week days.
- Sierra de Guadarrama. The specific place will be arranged with the guide a few days before the course, who will choose it depending on the group and the conditions of the mountain.
- Good physical condition.
- Previous experience in mountain rocky terrain and easy scrambles.
- Eager to learn.
- Light hiking boots with good soles. If you prefer mountain shoes, they must be approach shoes, with soles in good condition.
- Medium backpack 30/ 40 litres.
- Clothing suitable for high mountains. Depending on the season it can be more or less cold. (Mandatory long pants, t-shirt, fleece and raincoat)
- Hat, Buff or bandana, and if it’s cold, thin gloves.
- Cap, sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Water, 1 /1.5 L.
- Food for the day (sandwich, nuts, bars, fruit, etc.).
- Headlamp.
- Phone.
- Notepad can be interesting.
Technical Gear:
- Mountain helmet.
- Climbing harness.
- PAS with locking carabiner.
- 3 locking carabiners (2 of them HMS)
- 1 tubular type belay device (Reverso, ATC, Piu…)
- 1 Sling (120cm)
- 1 Cord (6mm 150cm)
- 1 Cord of 7 mm, 5 meters. If it is Dynema, 5 mm.
