Ski Touring Course in Madrid (2 days)

This mountain skiing course goal it’s to provide the rider with the technical and logistical knowledge necessary to, independently and safely, plan and tackle mountain ski ascents and descents outside the area of the ski resorts.

If you already know how to ski on piste, and you like the mountains, this course will give you the key, so you can enter a new world of enjoyment and sensations far from the bustle of the ski resorts. Our mountain ski courses will also provide you with the tools to practice this sport with maximum safety.

  • Ski touring equipment: Types of skis, bindings, boots and climbing skins. Use and maintenance.
  • Choice of route and itinerary based on mountain conditions, group capabilities, and safety.
  • Climbing progression techniques: sliding on different slopes, conversions, use of ski crampons, etc.
  • Basic descent techniques on untreated snow.
  • Transitions uphill-downhill, downhill- uphill, ski to crampons and vice versa.
  • Basic crampons and ice axe use and self-arrest technique.
  • Basic mountain meteorology.
  • Introduction to snow study, avalanches and avalanche victims rescue.
  • 2 days, usually during weekend, although can be done during week days. Ask for availability.
  • Around Madrid or Sierra de Ayllón (two hours drive from Madrid). The exact location will be decided by the guide the previous days, depending on snow conditions.
  • The course can also be organised in Sierra de Gredos (Two hours drive from Madrid) or in Cantabrian Mountains (four hours drive from Madrid). The price for this locations may vary.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Ski on parallel up to red and blue piste.
  • Recommended basic off piste ski level.
  • Mountaineering or ski helmet.
  • Ice axe.
  • Crampons.
  • Ski touring boots.
  • Properly regulated mountain skis.
  • Climb skins.
  • Ski crampons.
  • Ski poles.
  • Backpack. 30/40 litres
  • Clothing suitable for high mountains environment.
  • Beanie, buff and two pairs of gloves.
  • Googles, sun glasses and sunscreen.
  • Water bottle or thermos flask.
  • Food for the day (sandwich, nuts, bars, fruit, etc.)
